Lightbox 2 in Tumblr Themes Update

I was recently contacted with a request for some help with getting lightbox to work with a tumblr theme, due to my previous interest in the subject on this blog http://gregriley.net/tagged/lightbox . I did some research to refresh my memory and found that the lightbox implementation that I had previously used and discussed has been updated. Lightbox2 by Lokesh Dhakar My interest in this update is that as of version 2.5 the JavaScript library used has switched from Prototype to jQuery. This update is particularly welcome as I have had previous issues with conflicts caused when the older Prototype implementation was used alongside other jQuery powered features on a site, http://gregriley.net/post/214524044/lightbox-in-tumblr-not-working .

I tested the new version (2.51) of lightbox and got it to work with the tumblr theme and have since switched this site to use the new version. Because of the way tumblr themes work the resources that lightbox requires have to be hosted externally or uploaded to tumblr which is a little bit time-consuming. Once uploaded these resources can be used in your custom theme HTML. If anyone wishes to use them the relevant addresses should be included in the head section of your theme as follows:

http://static.tumblr.com/nvpi5fk/klZmlgkln/jquery-1.7.2.min.js
http://static.tumblr.com/nvpi5fk/MBYmlgkkb/lightbox.js
http://static.tumblr.com/nvpi5fk/OEpmlgkja/lightbox.css

I have already edited lightbox.js and lightbox.css to include links to the 4 image files required that have also been uploaded to tumblr. The lightbox can still be triggered in the same way as before using rel=”lightbox” . The exact location of this will vary depending on your theme and what you wish to achieve, but the most likely use for it will be in a photo type post {block:Photo} and should be placed in the anchor tag (link) from the small image to the large image that you wish to open in lightbox.

Panic Status Board Custom Panels

I have created two DIY panels for the new iPad App Status Board from Panic Software.

image

They display data from the North West Blood Bikes Lancashire and Lakes web site. The data is kept up to date by NWBB-LL members thanks to the great Perch CMS

If anyone wishes to add them to their own Status Board the addresses are:
